Somatic Restoration

Slow, restorative somatic movement practices

Somatic Restoration classes support the body and nervous system through slower, subtler movement grounded in internal awareness.

Rather than focusing on form, intensity, or output, these practices invite you to sense, listen, and respond to what’s happening from the inside out. Movement is often floor-based and guided by breath, gravity, and sensation.

This work can feel unfamiliar — especially if you’re used to fast-paced or goal-oriented movement. That’s not a sign you’re doing it wrong. It’s part of the process.

What to expect

Somatic Restoration classes move slowly and intentionally. You may notice moments of restlessness, uncertainty, or a desire to “do more” before your body begins to settle.

Over time and with repetition, many people experience:

  • a greater sense of ease or groundedness

  • release of habitual tension

  • improved body awareness

  • a felt sense of safety and regulation

This work is less about immediate results and more about cultivating conditions for restoration and integration.

Classes in this path

Somatic Unwinding

A guided, floor-based class rooted in somatic movement principles.

Somatic Unwinding draws inspiration from the Bartenieff Method and Somatic Groundwork, offering a gentle pathway into fundamental movement patterns and nervous system support. Practices focus on yielding, sensing, and integration — allowing the body to unwind tension and reconnect with its natural movement potential.

Many students find that this class becomes more meaningful with consistent attendance, as the nervous system learns to trust the pace.

Movement Playground

An unguided space for personal exploration.

Movement Playground is an open studio session designed for those who already have experience with Somatic Unwinding. After completing the prerequisite classes, you’re invited to use this time to explore your own somatic practices in a quiet, supported environment.

This offering supports autonomy, curiosity, and integration.

Prerequisite: completion of Somatic Unwinding classes.

Who this is for

Somatic Restoration may be supportive if you:

  • are navigating stress, burnout, or trauma recovery

  • are engaged in inner work or therapeutic processes

  • feel called to slow down and listen more deeply

  • are curious about movement as a restorative practice

If you’re unsure whether this path is right for you, many students choose to begin with Strength & Stability classes and explore somatic work later, when their bodies feel ready.

How people often engage

Some students attend Somatic Restoration classes on their own, while others integrate them alongside strength classes or private sessions.

There’s no expectation to “progress” or perform — this work unfolds in its own time.
